Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts
Northstar at Tahoe100 Northstar Dr., Truckee, California; Tel. 1.800.466.6784 Consistently voted as one of Lake Tahoe's best resorts, Northstar At Tahoe, located on the northeast shore of Lake Tahoe along California Highway 267, boasts some of the longest runs, 70 in all, and a vertical drop of 2280 feet on the front and back sides to get the blood rushing. Their longest run is 2.9 miles of skiing and snowboarding heaven, and Northstar also sports eight, mile long white-knuckle expert runs on the backside. If that wasn't enough there's also 240 acres of adventurous backcountry for experts open when the conditions are right. Contained within their staggering 2420 acres of terrain is their newest freestyle park to compete with Northstar At Tahoe's other five: the Burton Progressive Park, whose purpose is to teach freestylers just learning to ride jumps, rails, boxes and pipes with small to medium sized features set in a way that allows for breaks between obstacles. The other five parks range in difficulty from easy to expert and there's also two pipes: one half and a 420 foot superpipe. All of Northstar At Tahoe's parks play host to significant events in the world of snowboarding and skiing, and have been awarded top honors from every publication on the subject of freestyle riding. Besides its' awesome terrain features, Northstar at Tahoe also boasts a newly revitalized mountain village with a skating rink as its centerpiece and a host of lodging, dining and shops to satisfy everybody's needs. There's live music and special events scheduled, and Northstar At Tahoe also started a new complimentary on site shuttle service and valet parking, so skiers and snowboarders won't have to haul gear through town to the slopes and both make getting from the village to the mountain a snap. Perhaps one of Northstar At Tahoe's greatest assets is being known as a top destination resort in Lake Tahoe for the entire family as evidenced by their consistent top 25 ranking in Ski Magazine's family resort listings. The resort contains a large number of family oriented lodging options and mountain activities specified for children. There are six distinct areas designed for kids scattered around the mountain and a kid's corner in the main reception area that offers a host of services from ski and snowboard lessons and schools to day care. For skiers and snowboarders into challenging terrain or just looking for some easy runs to spend the afternoon on it's hard to beat Northstar At Tahoe for some hard-core winter family fun. —Northstar at Tahoe review by Ryan Osterbeck |
