Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts
Squaw Valley USA1960 Squaw Valley Rd., Olympic Valley, California; Tel. 530.583.6955 Squaw Valley's 4000 plus acres are built upon six pristine Lake Tahoe mountain peaks ranging in elevation from 7550 to 9050 feet with a vertical rise of 2850 feet making it one of California's most expansive ski resorts. Squaw Valley USA is located on Highway 89 in Olympic Valley, California between Tahoe City and Truckee. This skiers' and snowboarders' playground boasts over 100 runs and sixteen open bowl areas that offer terrain for any skill level. Most of Squaw's runs are at the intermediate level of difficulty, but it certainly does not skimp on the beginner and advanced level runs. Also, Squaw's freestyle parks are some of the best, unique and well maintained of any Lake Tahoe resort because they seriously groom them before opening every day. All three of the parks, containing a variety of unique rails, challenging boxes and big-air jumps, are accessible by separate chair lift systems and are rated by difficulty level with the largest being the Ford Freestyle Park that houses Squaw's legendary monster 550 foot superpipe. Squaw Valley USA is also a fantastic place to take that family vacation. This season it has completely revamped its Squaw Kids children's programs making them more accessible with either half or full day options so parents can enjoy some free time on the slopes. Either choice strives to teach kids a working knowledge of the mountain through lessons and schools that are separated into three age groups with varied skill levels. Also, the resort village at Squaw has undergone a significant renovation featuring slope-side luxury condominiums, plus a number of restaurants and shops, all contained in the pedestrian friendly European-style village. Plus, Squaw Valley USA offers Lake Tahoe's most extensive and exciting night skiing and snowboarding because the slopes are open top to bottom, all terrain parks are open and all of the lodges, from high camp to base camp, are in operation. —Squaw Valley USA review by Ryan Osterbeck |
